Transformateur Volume II

Assumption Education has been defined by the values of the Mother Foundress, St. Marie Eugenie of Jesus, and her advocacy of transformative education for many years. Transformateur, a French word meaning “transformative”, sums up the transformational process of education that the school devotedly stands for up to this day.In the spirit of transformative education, Research as a discipline has become an important part of the development of the students of the Assumption. It teaches them to enhance their scientific skills by making sacrifices for the improvement of their theses. This is reflected in the artwork on the cover that features a Hyssop: an herb that is prolific in the Middle East and popular for its cleansing, medicinal, and flavoring properties. Further, it is known in the Bible as the plant that symbolizes sacrifice, since the Israelites used these as paintbrushes for marking using blood of lambs. Roman soldiers offered Jesus a drink of wine vinegar using the same during his crucifixion. This herb, then, represents concretely the significance of sacrifice involved in Research. It takes great organization for one to be able to do this well. The Faculty and Staff of Assumption Iloilo are proud to claim that all were able to accomplish the painstaking work. May the Hyssop inspire everyone in the Assumption community to always put in mind the teachings of the Mother Foundress in their day-to-day lives, and most especially in the field of research and innovation. After all, love dies without sacrifice – and research does, too.The second volume of Transformateur features five multidisciplinary research conducted by faculty members.
