Assumption Iloilo students earned the Alay Kalinga Award worth โ‚ฑ10,000 at the first-ever MISSION POSSIBLE: Youth Social Hackathon in the Philippines, held from October 24โ€“26, 2025 at Assumption Antipolo. The event gathered high school students from 12 Catholic schools nationwide to collaborate, innovate, and propose actionable solutions to pressing community issues.

Among the participants, the Assumption Iloilo teamโ€”composed of two selected learners per grade level from Grades 10-12, namely Zen Heler (12-OLA), Nicole Mondragon (12-OLC), Athena Dava (11-St. Ignatius), Kyle Jimenez (11-St. Ignatius), Ella Gonzaga (10-MMA), and Aeron Policarpio (10-MTE)โ€”presented their project pitch titled "Bayanihan: Para sa Kaligtasan", with the concept of teaching indigenous peoples disaster risk reduction. It focused on conducting educational workshops for the Panay Bukidnon community, aligning with the emerging themes ofย

economic equality and globalization. Their outstanding contribution earned them the Alay Kalinga Award and โ‚ฑ10,000 in funding to support the implementation of their initiative.ย

Emerging as the overall champion, Assumption Antipolo received โ‚ฑ200,000 for developing an innovative app that promotes commuter safety in Metro Manila. Other notable winners include Assumpta Technical High School, with โ‚ฑ140,000 for an app encouraging civic youth participation, Assumption San Lorenzo with โ‚ฑ80,000 for an app designed for farmers, and St. Vincentโ€™s Academy with โ‚ฑ40,000 for their project fostering inter-religious peace among the youth of Kauswagan.

Throughout the three-day hackathon, students engaged in mentorship sessions, workshops, and expert talks from changemakers who inspired them to become proactive advocates for social change and public service.Teams collaborated with mentors to refine their pitches before presenting to a panel of judges, who awarded funding to selected groups for the execution of their projects.

The MISSION POSSIBLE: Youth Social Hackathon aims to empower young innovators and cultivate leadership for sustainable community transformation. By promoting collaboration, creativity, and social awareness, the event encourages students to design inclusive, real-world solutions for the challenges faced by their communities.
